More Details on Tippett - A Child of our Time

As with Berlioz and Sibelius, Sir Colin Davis has spent much of his career championing the music of Sir Michael Tippett.A contemporary of Benjamin Britten,Tippett wrote his oratorio A Child of Our Time as a response to Nazi oppression and it couples some of the 20th century's most creative orchestral and choral writing with spirituals.

This release is the latest in a series of choral and operatic recordings from Sir Colin on LSO Live. Other recent accalimed titles include Handel's Messiah (LSO0607), Berlioz's L'enfance du Christ (LSO0606) and Benvenuto Cellini (LSO0623) as well as Mozart's Requiem (LSO0627).

Recorded live at the Barbican December 2007.

Concert Reviews:
"few maestros seem to bind together Tippett's fractured lines with as much assurance as he [Sir Colin Davis] does... he drew superbly incisive singing from the LSC ... and the soloists rose to the occasion too" - The Times

"phenomenally powerful ... the work's combination of immediate political invective and timeless spirituality remains unique and devastating. A great work, greatly performed" - The Guardian
