About

Guild’s ‘mission’ to rescue old recordings really comes into its own with this new release. It follows on from the first volume of Transcription rarities (GLCD5174) which cast its net fairly wide and featured a dozen or so different orchestras.

Such was the enthusiasm from fellow collectors offering their own treasured recordings that it soon became clear that another CD in a similar vein had to be compiled. The important repertoire suddenly (and surprisingly) made available dictated that the spotlight should this time fall on just three major conductors - Percy Faith, Mantovani and Sidney Torch. All were leading figures in post-war orchestral popular music, and it is particularly interesting to listen to them in performances that provide tantalising glimpses of the way in which their careers would develop and mature.
