About

For many regular collectors, the “Golden Age of Light Music” series has come to mean bright, entertaining cameos of light music expertly crafted by some of the finest composers. They will surely not be disappointed with this latest mixture of the familiar and less well known, with a few taken from television, stage and screen.

The title gives a good indication of the general mood, but several slower pieces also help to create welcome contrasts. The CD ends with one of the finest suites of light music to come from Germany – Ernst Fischer’s superb “South of the Alps” inspired by the composer’s visit to Italy in 1935. This is a now rare recording from 1937 of the complete suite conducted by Bruno Seidler-Winkler.
