About

The complete set of Vivaldi’s opus 8, known as “The Trial of Harmony and Invention” (Il Cimento dell’Armonia e dell’Invenzione) is considered to be one of the greatest collections of Italian concertos in the repertoire and includes the four pieces known as “The Four Seasons”. It has been recorded here in an exciting and exceptional interpretation by Accademia Bizantina, one of the leading Italian ensembles performing on original instruments.

This CD, which is the second of two volumes covering the opus 8 set, features concertos 8 to 12 and is now being made available for the first time as a Hybrid SACD.

The Accademia Bizantina was founded in 1983 in Ravenna in Italy. In the 1990’s the harpsichordist Ottavio Dantone joined the orchestra, and in 1996 the Accademia decided to appoint Dantone as its musical director and significantly extended its repertoire, dedicating attention to research into baroque styles and performance techniques. The ensemble has made several recordings for the Arts and Decca labels which have won many prestigious awards around the world.
