About

Sony Classical is proud to announce the release of this year’s Summer Night Concert 2026 with the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Lorenzo Viotti and featuring Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel as soloist. The world’s largest annual classical open air concert once again took place in the magical setting of the Schönbrunn Palace Baroque park in Vienna, Austria, on 19 June 2026.

The Summer Night Concert, performed each year against the UNESCO World Heritage backdrop of Schönbrunn Palace, continues to enchant millions of viewers worldwide with its unique blend of visual splendour and musical excellence. The event embodies the Vienna Philharmonic’s longstanding mission to make classical music accessible to all - a gift to music lovers across more than 80 countries who follow the concert online, on television, and on radio.

This year’s programme embraced a wide spectrum of styles and genres, ranging from opera and operetta to musical theatre, ballet, and symphonic repertoire. Making his debut at the Summer Night Concert, Maestro Viotti led the orchestra in a vibrant selection of well known melodies. Sir Bryn Terfel performed arias from Arrigo Boito’s Mefistofele and Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff, the finale from Richard Wagner’s Das Rheingold, and Tevye’s song from Jerry Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof.

A special visual highlight came with Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, Suite no.2: dancers of the Vienna State Ballet brought the ancient tale of the foundlings Daphnis and Chloe to life in a new choreography by Eno Peçi, appearing as “shadow figures” projected onto the palace façade.
