About

*** Vinyl LP ***

Forsvindere 2 serves as the enchanting opener to this album, unfolding like a fairy tale with a gentle nursery rhyme-like quality. Comprising four pieces, the album seamlessly combines a small ensemble of acoustic instruments with live electronics. The electronic components feature brief snippets of the live instruments, sampled in real-time during the performance, then looped and projected back. These loops, reflecting the live musicians onto themselves, gradually build up layers of sound reminiscent of the layers of an ice palace.

Composer Mads Emil Dreyer (b. 1986) is as interested in knobs and buttons as violins and flutes, and he often creates a dialogue between electronic and acoustic entities.

Mads Emil Dreyer studied composition at advanced postgraduate level at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Hans Abrahamsen, Bent Sørensen and Niels Rosing-Schow among others.

The four works on the album are composed after Dreyer's typical principles of combining acoustic instruments with live electronics. The electronic consists of short snippets of the instruments, which are sampled live and then looped and projected back through the speakers, so the acoustic and electronic sounds blend together.

Disappearer presents a total of four works: two titled Forsvindere, two titled Vidder. The works make use of simple, transparent effects, resulting in an atmospheric and at times trance-inducing music.

It’s music that often doesn’t use large gestures, but rather tries to speak to the attentive ear, while also communicating on a more sensual level. Writer Tim Rutherford-Johnson describes the works as a “frozen music, glistening and thawing slowly under a cool winter sun”.

The album is recorded by the visionary contemporary music ensemble NEKO3, of which Mads Emil Dreyer is a co-founder.
