About

On Tango Ladeado accordionist Janne Rättyä leads the listener into the world of tango with the assistance of cellist Patrick Demenga on the final track. This album includes rare, previously unreleased tango gems from various composers from 1757 to 2017. It represents a collection of some of Rättyä’s favourite tangos among those which became the backbone of his concert programmes, the pièces de résistance. Classical accordionist Rättyä went through an inner battle before diving into the project, for he had previously avoided any association with popular music genres like the tango. Privately, though, he did enjoy slumming in this genre once in a while, and slowly he began to discover tangos written by serious composers, some of which found their way onto regular recital programmes. In the years following, a number of new tangos emerged and several composers contributed their own arrangements or suggested arrangements for him to work on. In the older tangos of his repertoire the original tango idiom is clearly present.

Janne Rättyä, who is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading classical accordionists, studied at the Sibelius Academy in Finland, and at the Folkwang University in Germany. Over the course of his studies, he was awarded numerous prizes in various international classical accordion and soloist competitions. Rättyä performs as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and in the U.S. and Asia. He has performed as a soloist with many Finnish and foreign orchestras. Rättyä has been Professor of Classical Accordion Studies at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria, since 2003. He has recorded numerous prizewinning CDs.

Patrick Demenga studied at the Bern Conservatory, in Cologne with Boris Pergamenschikow as well as with Harvey Shapiro in New York and is one of today’s most sought after cellists. Demenga appears regularly at the most renowed festivals and music centres throughout Europe, South Africa, the U.S., Canada, South America, Australia and Asia. His many radio and television recordings as well as numerous LPs and CDs have made him known to the international public.
