About

Many Soviet composers knew how to steer a middle course through the political obstacles put in their path, enabling them to supply the regime with what was seen as officially desirable, yet remain faithful to their own musical instincts. Kabalevsky was a master of all musical genres, particularly as a specialist in music for children, and cultivated a style that was highly personal and easily accessible. His works are characterised by melodic invention, dance rhythms (notably in fast movements), expansive slow sections, and a positive, cheerful tone.
