In An allem ist Hütchen Schuld! (Everything is Little-Hat’s Fault!) Richard Wagner’s son, Siegfried, wrote a work that was almost unique in his own time; a fairy-tale opera transformed into an opera about fairy tales. His own libretto is fashioned into a fantasia collage of more than 40 fairy tales, many taken from stories by the Brothers Grimm. This thrilling new production shows how these principles of montage, coupled with ingenious musical motifs, give the opera an unexpected sense of modernity. Fanfare called Schwarzschwanenreich “in the operatic realms of gold” (8223777-78).
