About

A rather unusual disc from Slovakian label Pavlik Records.  It features the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Hernando Rico, recorded in concert in Las Palmas in July 2011.  With soprano, Ana Carolina Diz and tenor, Francisco Corujo, who present a selection of solos and duets from a range of zarzuelas interspersed with orchestral fragments.

Once described as a kind of Spanish music resembling Gilbert and Sullivan it is true to say that most of the represented composers will be little known.  Their music is quite infectious, prompting the question as to what the complete works are like.

A fun musical disc.  Everyone will know track 11, Granada by Agustin Lara - a song forever associated with Mario Lanza -  Francisco Corujo does not fade by comparison!
