Michael Finnissy (keyboard)
The 11th in Metier’s Michael Finnissy series contains all of his music for violin and piano, ranging from the super-miniature ‘Jive’ to substantial works which also differ greatly – from the Sonata in relatively formal guise though thoroughly ‘new’, to items inspired by Scandinavian folk tunes and outrageous less-than-serious pieces involving prepared keyboards and other implements.
Darragh Morgan and Mary Dullea have terrifically busy lives in senior teaching posts, and as chamber and solo instrumentalists. Darragh alone has made over 50 CDs to date. They have worked closely with the composer (who also appears in a supporting performing role) to make these recordings truly authentic benchmarks.
