About

The young violinist Lena Neudauer captivated the critics with her first recording for Haenssler, Schumann’s Complete Works for Violin and Orchestra (HAEN 93258). On this new recording she tackles the incredibly demanding violin works of Maurice Ravel. Accompanied by Paul Rivinius (who is a critically acclaimed performer in his own right), Lena’s interpretation is wonderfully inspired.

Especially noteworthy is Neudauer's interpretation of the rarely performed "Habanera" - not to be confused with "Pièce en forme de Habanera", originally a vocal etude that Ravel himself arranged for violin and piano. The current "Habanera" was composed in 1895 for two pianos, and later published together with "Entre cloches" under the title "Sites auriculaires" before ultimately being orchestrated to become the third part of his "Rapsodie espagnole." The current version is from the hand of Fritz Kreisler - a unique listening experience of an exceptionally well-travelled little piece!

For the recording of the Sonata for violin and violoncello, Julian Steckel (winner of the ARD music competition and the ECHO Klassik) is Lena's congenial partner.
