Composed in 1939, Karl Amadeus Hartmann used musical quotations for his concerto from works of composers whose compositions were banned. Partially atonal, this is a gripping piece of music and the performance by The String Academy of Bozen under the direction of Frieder Bernius, with violinist Ulrike-Anima Mathé, makes a superb coupling for the Schubert and Beethoven pieces.
