ECM New Series ECM New Series | 1 to 0 of 0 results

Founded by producer Manfred Eicher in 1969, ECM has to date issued more than 1200 albums spanning many idioms. After establishing an early reputation with standard-setting jazz recordings by Keith Jarrett, Paul Bley, Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, the Art Ensemble of Chicago and others, ECM began to include contemporary composition – including Steve Reich’s landmark “Music for 18 Musicians” – in its programme in the late 1970s; Eicher’s own background, as a musician active in both jazz and classical music, provided an unusually broad vantage point from which to survey, and influence, the genres.

ECM New Series was launched in 1984, originally to introduce Arvo Pärt’s “Tabula Rasa”, and has since become a broad platform for a wide variety of composed music from the pre-baroque era to the present day. These are the titles that are primarily represented on our website.

The quality of ECM albums at all levels – from musicianship, production and engineering to cover art – has been widely recognised and the label has collected many awards.

Use this page to search for more specific requirements. Any combination of criteria can be used.

We would recommend keeping your search as simple as possible - this will help in returning the maximum number of results.

The following tips may assist you in your search:
  • Avoid using punctuation marks and spaces when searching for catalogue numbers - all of these are removed for ease of use.
  • Try using just one word in each of the fields you use. For example, only type the surname of an artist rather than their whole name.
  • The keyword box will search the entire database, including all extra information attached to a product. This is best used for very specific words, or for adding an extra word to narrow down your search results.
  • The genre box is useful for wider searching, but is not recommended for specific searches, as not every product has been assigned a genre. Please note that concertos are included under Orchestral and that Chamber includes all small ensembles of two musicians or more.
Please note that we are continuing to add more products to our database on a daily basis. If you cannot find what you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact us and, as long as the product is still available, we will order it for you and send it as soon as possible.
