About

This opera was written and first performed in Sydney in 1847. The composer Isaac Nathan migrated to Sydney in 1840 and is considered to be the “father of Australian music”.

This is rather a family affair, as Nathan was the great-great-great-grandfather of Sir Charles Mackerras who arranged the score. Alexander Briger, who conducts this performance, is Mackerras’ nephew.
