About

Internationally acclaimed pianist Leif Ove Andsnes teams up once again with conductor Antonio Pappano on his new recording of Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos Nos 3 & 4. Andsnes and Pappano first recorded collaboration was the 2004 EMI Classics release of Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos Nos 1 & 2, with the Berliner Philharmoniker, which received glorious, universal acclaim.

The London Symphony Orchestra, with Vladimir Horowitz, was the first to record Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.3. It was released 70 years ago in 1930

The internationally acclaimed pianist Leif Ove Andsnes has been referred to as “an eminently sensual musician, an artist capable of grace and introspection” by the Financial Times, while the BBC Music magazine commented on "how hard it is to over-praise the vitality and distinction of this princely pianist."

In addition to giving recitals and playing concertos each season in the world’s leading concert halls and with the all the foremost orchestras, Andsnes is an avid chamber musician who joins select colleagues each summer at Norway’s Risør Festival of Chamber Music, of which he is co-artistic director. The New York Times has placed Risør among the top-10 musical events of the year.

Praise for Andsnes & Pappano's Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos 1 & 2:
Leif Ove Andsnes applies to these two glorious works all those qualities for which his playing is renowned. It’s nothing short of stunning.” - ***** Sunday Times (London)

Andsnes lavishes his customary balance of head and heart on this music and the Berlin Philharmonic under Pappano play magnificently.” - Gramophone, Editor's Choice

"Andsnes studiously avoids barnstorming on the one hand or prissiness on the other: his is an intelligent, alert and at times austere middle road, with lightning reflexes in the First and more reserved touch in the Second.” - **** The Independent
