About

This collection of great pianists of the 20th century brings together three outstanding live performances, two with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra from the decade following the end of World War II, and one with the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam from the very year in which that conflict broke out in Europe.

During that less than 20 year period, of course, Europe – which had seen the births of all the pianists and conductors on this record – was in a state of flux, of social and political restructuring and rebuilding (in every sense) of the shattered continent.
