About

Enrico Mainardi (May 19, 1897, Milan – April 10, 1976, Munich) was an Italian cellist, composer, and conductor. At the age of thirteen, in 1910, Mainardi had already begun his career as a cello virtuoso who toured the concert halls of Europe. Here, he plays cello concertos by, among others, Boccherini, Marcello and Hindemith.

He is ably accompanied by pianist Carlo Zecchi and by the Berlin State Opera, conducted by Richard Strauss, the RAI Turino Orchestra, conducted by Guilini and the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, conducted by Eduard Van Beinum. Recordings range from 1933 to 1962.
