About

One of a remarkable series of works Schubert wrote in his final year, Mass No. 6 in E flat lay unperformed until a year after his death. With an unusually prominent part for trombones, this is a powerful and disquieting masterpiece, reconciling the liturgical grandeur and monumentality of the vast fugues that end the Gloria and Credo, with the composer’s natural lyricism and daring chromatic digressions.
This is the first of the great Schubert Masses on Naxos, and is the first instalment in a complete cycle of the Masses featuring these artists.
The Immortal Bach Ensemble, formed in May 2006 by Morten Schuldt-Jensen, aims to combine old and new and with top quality performances it seeks to explore new ideas and perspectives that are captivating for both singers and audience. They are joined by the Leipziger Kammerorchester.
