"There's a bewildering variety of young(ish) composers active in Norway these days... To my mind, the most impressive of the under-fifties is Rolf Wallin (b. 1957), whose music has an exhilarating charge of energy. Like several composers of his vintage who have sown their serial oats - Magnus Lindberg, Esa-Pekka Salonen and George Benjamin come to mind - Wallin blends the lessons learned from high modernism with a renewed appreciation of the directional power of 'classical' harmony."
