About

This DVD consists mostly of material that has never been released on any home video format and some of it has never been seen anywhere before including a late interview between Nupen and du Pre shot on 13th December 1980 and a 12 minute montage of images of du Pre and Barenboim from the Allegro Films archives, made especially for this DVD (Interlude with Johannes Brahms).

The Two films are different in character. 'Who was Jacqueline Du Pre?' focuses on her personality as seen through the people who knew her best. It sets the record straight, corrects some of the more distorted myths and keeps a vibrant personality alive in the world in the way that only film can do.

The second, 'Remembering Jacqueline Du Pre' focuses on her music. The first half is filmed mostly in rehearsal situations where she is at her most revealing and exuberant. The second half features performances at the highest level, including the closing five minutes of the Elgar Cello Concerto in the legendary Philharmonia / Barenboim performance of 1967.

The Interlude with Johanne Brahms and the 1980 interview come between the two films.
