The Sibelius Edition encompasses 13 volumes and 65 discs of all the music the composer ever created, including previously unreleased material, rare original versions and world première recordings.

This first issue features internationally acclaimed Sibelius specialists and longtime BIS artists Osmo Vänskä with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Neeme Järvi with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, while Helena Juntiunen provides vocal support (in Luonnotar, Op. 70).

Lahti Symphony Orchestra / Osmo Vänskä perform all tracks, with the exception of Scènes historiques I, Op. 25 and Scènes historiques II, Op. 66 (Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra / Neeme Järvi).

Previously unreleased recordings included in this box are The Wood-Nymph, Op. 15, and Spring Song, Op. 16, made in 2006 and 2007.
