About

Stabat Mater is a thirteenth century Roman Catholic sequence attributed to Jacopone da Todi. Its title is an abbreviation of the first lineof the poem: Stabat mater dolorosa.

The hymn, one of the most powerful and immediate of extant medieval poems, meditates on the suffering of Mary during her son’s crucifixion. It has been set to music by many composers, among them - Antonín Dvořák, whose highly symphonic version is performed here.

Yvonne Kenny provides the soprano solos on this powerful recording of the poignant work. She has won great critical acclaim on previous discs: “‘Yvonne Kenny is a heaven-sent Marschallin, she boasts just the right balance of maturity and attractiveness of tone” Classic CD

Kenny is joined by Eva Randová, Wieslav Ochmann, and Jan Galla, and conducted by Vaclav Neumann.

Live Recording from the Vladislav Hall in the Hradčany Prague 1989.
