About

Only Giulio Regondi composed such fascinating music for the concertina, a hand-held bellows instrument with the characteristic sound of free reeds. Here, accordion virtuoso Helmut C. Jacobs presents outstanding performances of solo compositions from the mid-nineteenth century.

Giulio Regondi’s life is shrouded in mystery. He was born in Geneva in 1823 and at the age of five was performing as a guitarist in public. In London he met Charles Wheatstone, an instrument builder and professor of physics – who had just developed the concertina. Regondi took an interest in the instrument, learnt to play it and took it on tour with great success.

These Waltzes, variations, and concert etudes with their breathtaking runs, require the great skill of an exceptional musician.

World premiere recording.
