About

The two composers J.G.W. Palschau (c. 1741-1815) and J.A.P. Schulz (1747-1800) started their musical careers as child prodigies touring Europe as did the young W.A. Mozart some 15 years later. Both Palschau and Schulz were influenced by the great J.S. Bach, but each transformed his own musical vision into highly original works, unfortunately mainly forgotten by posterity.

This new release features the world première recording of the only two harpsichord concertos that Palschau ever composed as well as Schulz’ solo pieces Six diverses pièces pour le Clavecin ou le Piano Forte. The works were composed in a highly interesting period of transition for instrumental music and combine inspiration from both Bach and Mozart.

Lars Ulrik Mortensen (b. 1956) has already established his name as one of today’s leading harpsichord players, and has received a number of prestigious awards for his solo recordings. On this new release from Dacapo Records, Lars is accompanied by his own ensemble Concerto Copenhagen, Scandinavia’s leading period ensemble.
