About

Alexander Goehr is a key figure in contemporary British music: founder of the Manchester Group - including fellow composers Birtwistle and Maxwell Davies- and teacher of several of Britain's leading composers including Robin Holloway, George Benjamin and Thomas Adès.

In his work Symmetry Disorders Reach, inspired by WH Auden's New Year Letter, Goehr uses models by Bach, Handel, Mozart and Schumann to explore the creative act. This CD, to mark the composer's 75th birthday on 10th August 2007, is the result of a unique collaboration between Goehr and one of his former Cambridge pupils, the brilliant composer and pianist Huw Watkins.
