About

Heinrich Von Herzogenberg (1843-1900) is a composer who works have been somewhat underestimated. His oratorio, Die Passion uses a limited number of voices and instruments and the work is in parts reminiscent of the Baroque. What is striking is the almost complete absence of solo arias, with the active and contemplative part played by the chorus. Die Passion is historically important because of its functional purpose, as well as its power, musical content and the expressive power of the composer’s harmonic inventions and dramatic expression of deep faith.
