About

This new recording of the 1967 edition of The Rite of Spring, a major landmark of twentieth century music, is released in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Stravinsky.

With four wonderfully contrasted and varied movements, Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto is one of his most perfect concert works. The strikingly original Symphonies of Wind Instruments is the composer’s most powerful and original preneoclassic composition.

The setting of Konstantine Balmont’s Symbolist poem Zvezdoliki (‘The Star-Faced One’) for unaccompanied male chorus is unique in Stravinsky’s music for its uncontrasted slow tempo, quiet dynamic level and the absence of a motoric rhythm.
