About

Born 1952, Gerd Kuhr studied composition with Hans Werner Henze in Cologne and studied conducting with Sergiu Celibedache. After opera engagements in Cologne and Graz, he became guest professor for composition at the Mozarteum 1992-1994 and since 1995 he has been professor for composition and music theory at the Graz Arts University. His numerous prizes and awards include a scholarship prize from the Ernst von Siemens Trust, an Austrian scholarship prize for music, the Rolf Liebermann grant for opera composition and the Ernst Krenek prize from the City of Vienna. 2005 saw the world premiere of Revue électronique et instrumentale, a work commissioned work for Styriarte Classical Music Festival.
