Composer Nathan Henninger releases Romanza, a luminous new orchestral album and a deeply expressive continuation of his acclaimed debut Five Scenes for Orchestra.

Conceived as a single, continuous tone poem for string orchestra, percussion, and piano, Romanza unfolds over 20 minutes as an emotional journey centred on a recurring lyrical theme representing love – its tenderness, vulnerability, and endurance. Expanding beyond romantic love, the work reflects a broader sense of human connection: between friends, family, and the lasting bonds shaped by memory and loss.

Recorded in Budapest with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and featuring pianist Marouan Benabdallah, the album blends cinematic orchestral colour with an intimate, lyrical voice. In addition to the complete work, Romanza includes five excerpted movements that highlight key moments from the piece.

Henninger’s debut album, Five Scenes for Orchestra, received international broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and WDR, was featured in IDAGIO’s Editor’s Weekly Picks, and was named one of the Top 100 Recordings of 2025 by critic Ted Gioia. With Romanza, he builds on this success with a work that is both accessible and emotionally resonant.
