About

A new world-premiere recording by Schweizer Fonogramm brings romantic chamber music for clarinet and piano to life. Born in what is now Turznice (Poland), Adolf Reichel studied in Berlin and Leipzig and spent time studying in Paris before moving to Bern in the 1860s to take up the post of general music director. His style, influenced by Mendelssohn's classicism, and the elegance of his compositions could easily conceal the fact that Reichel maintained a lifelong friendship with one of the most famous anarchists of his time, Mikhail Bakunin. Clarinettist Bernhard Röthlisberger (principal clarinettist and bass clarinettist with the Bern Symphony Orchestra) and the busy pianist Benjamin Engeli demonstrate their versatility and wide stylistic range with this recording.
