About

Almost three hundred years ago, the legendary opera librettist Pietro Metastasio was inspired by the Olympic Games, the mother of all festivals, to write a dramatic poem whose perfection attracted no fewer than 70 composers to set it to music. One of the first was Antonio Vivaldi, whose Olimpiade was a great success in Venice on 17 February 1734: Once again, the audience witnesses a brilliant game of confusion that not only relies on the popular role reversal, but also brings the power of the oracle and the "sporting" competition for the hand of a beauty into the fray. A happy ending is guaranteed and was also granted at the Innsbruck Festival in 2023, where the original production and, above all, the sparkling music by Vivaldi's "Prete rosso" were much applauded.
