About

Chamber Orchestra Avanti! has made an album after a break of over ten years! The selected works of Lotta Wennäkoski heard on the Zeng record were performed in February 2020 at the composer's 50th anniversary concert organized by Avanti. In addition to the works heard at the concert, I ställen för vingar (2014–16), Hele (2018), Kuule II (2007) and Zeng (2018–19), the piano trio Päärme (2014–15) was recorded on the album. The whole gives a versatile overview of Lotta Wennäkoski's chamber music production - the Hungarian pedals of Zeng meet the emotional organ scores of Kuule II.

The list of soloists on the album is impressive. Zeng features recorder Lucie Horsch and percussionist Ville Syrjäläinen. Kuule II bass clarinet part played by Heikki Nikula and the song cycle I ställen för vingar interpreted by mezzo-soprano Virpi Räisänen, Heikki Nikula clarinets, Antti Ohjenoja percussion and Timo Ahtinen double bass. The piano trio in Päärme consists of pianist Emil Holmström, violinist Erikka Maalismaa and cellist Mikko Ivars. The chamber orchestra pieces have been recorded under the direction of conductor József Hárs.
