About

Springtime in Amsterdam is a joyful feature film created by director Christof Loy, world renowned for his work in international opera houses. Meeting accidentally in Amsterdam, a group of four people experience a series of confusions that must be resolved in 48 hours. A richly varied musical score that includes Viennese operetta, Dutch and French chansons, and songs from the American song book, is performed by a renowned cast of singers and conducted by Marko Letonja, well versed in popular music. In a magical dream world, dilemmas are resolved in this enchanting fable.

German director Christof Loy is now 60 years old and is one of the most internationally sought-after opera and theatre directors of his generation. His meticulously crafted productions have earned him numerous awards, including Director of the Year several times by Opernwelt magazine. In 2017 he was named Director of the Year at the International Opera Awards, where he also won the 2016 award for Best New Production for Peter Grimes at the Theater an der Wien.

Bachtrack wrote of Annette Dasch’s performance in Kátya Kabanová at Komische Oper in November 2021; ‘Kátya was portrayed by soprano Annette Dasch with an acting and vocal perfection that was almost frightening.’ Of her performance in the operetta Die Csárdásfürstin (Zurich 2020) Bachtrack spoke of ‘starry singing from Annette Dasch… As cabaret star Sylva, Annette Dasch is thrown straight into the show’s standout number, “Heia, oheia”, announcing herself as desirable and exotic... Dasch and her select coterie of accompanying dancers put in enough verve to make us forget the COVID-imposed restrictions.’

Thomas Oliemans is a Lieder specialist. Of his Schubert Winterreise, Opera Today wrote in October 2022, ‘There could be nothing but astonishment and admiration for the baritone’s concentrated self-immersion in the cycle – in every element of its expressive means – and for his technical accomplishment and sheer stamina.’
