About

This new recording is part of 'The Blue Series'; unique music portraits of the most interesting personalities of the International Chopin Piano Competition.

Eva Gevorgyan, one of the youngest contestants in the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, also had one of the biggest followings. Of all the finalists who did not ultimately receive a prize, the 17-year-old Russian-Armenian pianist certainly enjoyed the widest support from fans around the world.

Critic Marcin Majchrowski wrote in the Chopin Courier that 'Gevorgyan is one of the most exciting pianists in the Competition and a clear front-runner. The level of diligence manifested in her repertoire was astonishing … I have my favourite.'

Reinforcing the impression that Gevorgyan is an artist who leaves nothing to chance, all the pieces in her First Stage recital were in related keys.

Featuring Chopin's Mazurkas, Waltzes and Sonata in B flat minor, the Piano Concerto in E minor, op.11, is a work that dazzles with the youthful spirit of a composer who completed it in August 1830, just three months before his departure from Warsaw.

As Krzysztof Stefanski in the Chopin Courier noted: 'All the notes were firm and weighted. This pianist has a clear sense of direction … She hardly needed the orchestra, especially in the Rondo finale. This was the best Krakowiak so far: crude, but also quite delicate, with tasteful rubato and dynamic shading.'
