About

In the last decade Luxembourgian composers have written a vivid body of orchestral music that takes in a wide range of inspirations. Ivan Boumans explores the field of biology in Meiosis where the music undergoes transformations, whereas for Roland Wiltgen it is celestial mechanics that drives Orbital Resonances. The idea of transformation is also important to Marco Pütz as he generates exciting ‘chordal clusters’. Inspired by a fresco, Jeannot Sanavia’s Hélice is a study in agitation, while Tatsiana Zelianko charts the death and rebirth of a butterfly in music of passionate drama.

Solistes Européens, Luxembourg is formed from players from the best orchestras in Europe who have been meeting regularly in Luxembourg for more than 25 years, with a discography of more than 120 albums.

The orchestra’s Naxos recordings with Christoph König featured two discs of Louise Farrenc’s symphonies, both receiving nominations at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA). Symphony no.1 is on 8574094, and BBC Music Magazine wrote that ‘[König] keeps everything tautly on course with a magisterial grip that nonetheless never wants for expressive empathy’. ClassicsToday.com added: ‘All the performances here, under conductor Christoph König, are suitably fresh and lively.’

For the Farrenc Symphonies nos. 2 and 3 (8573706) release, WTJU stated: ‘The Solistes Européens has a fine ensemble blend. Christoph König leads them in fiery, committed performances.’
