The diversity of Bach’s organ works, which embraces almost all the forms characteristic of the baroque period and also form types devised by Bach himself, not only raises many questions for musicologists, but has also proved to be a musically demanding challenge for organists; one which must always be resolved interpretatively. In this selection of Bach’s great preludes and fugues, you can hear organ works which enjoy special status within the complete oeuvre or represent compositional highlights; the crème de la crème of an already outstanding body of work, played by Thomaskirche organist Ullrich Böhme.
