About

Dussek wrote his Messe Solemnelle for Prince Nicholas II of Esterházy, in 1811. Prince Nicholas commissioned Mass compositions from a number of different composers between 1795 and 1813, many of them performed in celebration of the name day of his wife, Princess Maria Josepha Hermengilde Esterházy. The most famous compositions of this series are Joseph Haydn’s Six Masses (1796–1802) and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Mass in C major, op.86 (1807). It is extremely unlikely that this Mass had ever been performed before 2 October 2019.
