About

Kurt Weill was one of the most important composers of the first half of the 20th century. He can be regarded both as a German and an American composer in that he emigrated to America the year the Nazis came to power.

Kurt Weill met Bertolt Brecht in 1927. They were around the same age and both desperately keen to modernise the theatre. They produced a number of works together, among them the famous Dreigroschenoper (1928); their last co-production was the choral ballet The Seven Deadly Sins.

Weill created Quodlibet, which he himself defined as “light music”, in 1923. The orchestral suite is derived from his pantomime of the same name.
