About

This recording presents three premiere recordings of Paul Lansky’s recent chamber music. The Long and Short of It for woodwind quintet was inspired by the third movement Adagio of Mozart’s Serenade for Winds K361, and borrows a throbbing accompanimental figure to generate a powerful 25-minute score. The Long and Short of It was commissioned by The Library of Congress and The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Talking Guitars uses the metaphor of a conversation to characterise a dialogue between the two guitars and is performed by the brilliant young guitarists, Jiyeon (Jiji) Kim, and Hao Yang. Pieces of Advice was written for William Purvis and Mihae Lee. The suite consists of five 'character studies', phrasing its performance instruction in terms of a posture: 'Be Mysterious', 'Be Proud', 'Be Patient', 'Be Annoying', and 'Be Insistent'.

Windscape:
- Tara Helen O’Connor (flute)
- Randall Ellis (oboe)
- Alan R. Kay (clarinet)
- David Jolley (horn)
- Frank Morelli (bassoon)
