About

Charpentier was Lully and Lalande’s equal for the exceptional quality of his music. For the Duchess of Guise he created works of infinite beauty, which Louis XIV particularly admired, including the ‘Idylle en musique’ Les Arts Florissans (1685). Gaétan Jarry and his young musicians give back living vitality to this allegory of the artistic golden age of the “greatest king of the world” who had just settled his court in Versailles, with himself in the guise of Apollo or as the Sun King.

Treat yourself to Versailles! With recordings exclusively made in the emblematic settings of the royal residence such as the Opera, the Chapel, Château de Versailles Spectacles is the label dedicated to the repertoire of the most glorious years in the château's history.

Baroque gems, prestigious artists and discoveries, these productions will transport the listener into the splendour and intimacy of historic Versailles as well as today. The label Château de Versailles Spectacles created in 2018 on the occasion of the tenth season of the Royal Opera is evidence of the intense musical activity in this highly important world heritage centre of international tourism which welcomes every year some 8 million visitors.

Reviews

Throughout Les Arts florissans the level of craftsmanship and melodic inspiration astonishes in its fecundity, making for a score that consistently ravishes the senses and delights the ear. ... Jarry's direction cannot be faulted, any more than can the excellent orchestral contribution.  Brian Robins
