About

A century after his death on 25 March 1918, many Harmonia Mundi artists were eager to pay tribute to Claude Debussy, the magician of melody and timbre, the great ‘colourist’ and father of modern music.

The key word is ‘mélodie’ in this generous, joint song recital proposed by Sophie Karthäuser and Stéphane Degout in total symbiosis with Eugene Asti and Alain Planès.

A subtle canvas featuring the finest cycles and set in the land of the Symbolist and Impressionist poets; with Debussy the artistic journey is first and foremost a matter of colour.

Reviews

The Belgian soprano Sophie Karthäuser and French baritone Stéphane Degout share a delicious recital, accompanied by Eugene Asti and Alain Planès respectively. There are songs inspired by two of Debussy’s lovers, Marie Vasnier and Emma Bardac, but this is also a programme which celebrates his love for the poetry of Paul Verlaine, Paul Borget, Stéphane Mallarmé and Charles Baudelaire. ... Two blissful hours from four winning advocates for Debussy.  Mark Pullinger
