Vespro della beata Vergine
ArtistsClaudio Monteverdi Choir of Crema
This is the first complete recording of the trilogy, a masterpiece by Francesco Cavalli.
In the Vespero della Beata Vergine, Francesco Cavalli proves himself a worthy heir of Claudio Monteverdi, using musical brush strokes to extraordinary effect and reflecting an intense Counter-Reformation spirituality, in which the deepest religious feeling goes hand in hand with the stamp of Venetian splendour.
The performance is in the authoritative hands of the Coro Monteverdi di Crema and the La Pifarescha ensemble conducted by Bruno Gini, one of Italy’s greatest specialists in Cavalli’s sacred music.
Recording date & place: May 2016 – Church of Abbadia Cerreto (LO), Italy
Notes: Italian, English; Latin text included
