Listeners will find a banquet of Baroque string trios by Johann Christian Bach, Carlo Antonio Campioni, Luigi Boccherini, Franz Joseph Haydn, Christian Cannabich, Felice Giardini and Giuseppe Maria Cambini.

Most of the pieces on this disc are little known, along with their composers.  Aside from works by Beethoven, Mozart and Schubert, the string trio is not one that finds its way onto concert programmes with any regularity.  The liner notes with this disc indicate that the composers represented collectively composed around 200 works in this format.

They are brought back to life by The Vivaldi Project, who are: Elizabeth Field, violin, Allison Edberg Nyquist, violin and viola and Stephanie Vial, cello.  They perform on period instruments, and are dedicated to presenting innovative programmes of Baroque and Classical string repertoire.  The Washington Post described their playing as being "impelled by a throbbing metrical pulse".

Beautifully recorded, The Vivaldi Project offer 73 minutes of superb music. There will be more, as this disc is Volume 1 in an ongoing series.
