About

This is the first-ever album dedicated to the music of the Ukrainian composer Fyodor Akimenko (a.k.a. Fedir Yakymenko, 1876–1945). Born in Kharkiv, Akimenko studied in St Petersburg with Balakirev, Lyapunov and Rimsky-Korsakov and was Stravinsky’s first teacher. His music has much in common with that of Glazunov and Grechaninov and, like them, in 1923 he chose exile over a prominent teaching career in St Petersburg. He finally settled in France in 1929, where he became Théodore and continued composing his generous output of lyrical, Romantic music.

The violinist Tatiana Chulochnikova was recently named the winner of the Jeffrey Thomas Award 2016, given annually to a musician of unusual promise and precocious achievement. Born in Ukraine, Chulochnikova began playing violin at 7 and made her professional debut at 14. Chulochnikova received further professional training at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, Oberlin Conservatory and the Juilliard School. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2013.

Anastasia Dedik has performed on some of the most important stages in the world and has appeared as a soloist with Fort Worth Symphony, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, NYCA Symphony Orchestra, Nova Vista Symphony, Oberlin Orchestra and others. After graduating from the Saint Petersburg Conservatoire in 2004, Anastasia continued her education at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School. She has been the recipient of numerous national and international awards.
