Both Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and Richard Strauss’ Metamorphoses were late great works by two composers whose genius was here once more expressed in unprecedented intensity. Richard Strauss’ Metamorphoses for 23 solo strings were written during the final days of the Second World War. Faced with the destructive power of man, the great composer wrote a work characterized by profound grief, but ultimately expressing the hope that the intellectual energy of humankind will determine the future.

(Lay Down Your Arms!), giving credit to Bertha von Suttner by incorporating citations of the first female peace nobel prize winner.
