About

Following on from Paul Walton’s critically-acclaimed debut disc ‘Rejoice and be Merry’ – organ music for Christmas (Regent REGCD406), a second disc of organ music recorded on the historic Walker organ of Bristol Cathedral: In an old Abbey – British organ music.

A selection of rare British organ music from the twentieth century, played on what is regarded as one of the finest English Romantic organs.

Includes first recordings of Jeremy Cull’s reconstruction of Elgar’s Second Organ Sonata from the original movements of the Severn Suite for brass band, and John Cook’s Five Studies the form of a Sonata.

After study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and with Kevin Bowyer, Paul Walton was appointed Assistant Organist of Bristol Cathedral in 2001. He is one of the finest young organists of his generation, and we are delighted to be releasing this second recording from him in music that perfectly complements the Romantic Edwardian character of the Bristol Cathedral organ.
