About

William Dore is the organist of Ampleforth Abbey in Yorkshire, where he succeeds his father who was organist for many years in the 1970s.

The 122 stop Walker organ, which is situated in a resonant building, has not been commercially recorded since Vista Records made an LP some 50 years ago. It sounds magnificent and this recording is centred around the influence of Plainsong, which is of course sung daily in the Abbey.

All the music is French, apart from the first recording of Philip Moore's (formerly Master of the Music at York Minster) Five Sketches.
