The brilliant music of John Garth places him amongst the greatest of English baroque composers, yet he was almost totally forgotten until recently. The Avison Ensemble recording of his Cello Concertos has been a worldwide success and Divine Art best selling title.
During his lifetime, his ‘hit’ was his wonderful Op.2 set of six two-movement sonatas for keyboard with (in the Northern English tradition) two violins and cello. His equally fine Op.4 cemented his reputation, and these works will resonate with today’s audiences in these exceptional performances.
