About

The Munich Bach Choir has been in existence since May 1954. The Choir has frequently sung the two choral works on this CD during the course of its long history, and there are recordings under Karl Richter. With its Chorale with the catchy ritornello, BWV147 is one of the best known cantatas. The two-part version received its world premiere on 2 July 1723 in Leipzig.

The Magnificat text (Song of Praise of the Virgin Mary) was set by Bach several times; the version BWV243 recorded here was composed in 1730.

It is considered certain that the splendid violin concerto movement BWV1045 is the introductory Sinfonia to a planned cantata.
